The authority received a report of an accident approximately 60 nautical miles southeast of Aden, where “a ship was hit and is currently on fire.”

The authority added: “The ship is requesting assistance. The authorities have been notified, and the authorities are responding to that.”

Later in the incident, the ship's operator, Trafigura, announced that the fire had been extinguished, and that all crew members on board the tanker were fine.

She continued: “(Marilyn Luanda) is now sailing towards a safe port, while the crew continues to closely monitor the tanker and the goods,” noting that “there are no other ships working for the company that are currently crossing the Gulf of Aden.”

And ChenHouthi group Yemen has witnessed wave after wave of drone and missile attacks on commercial ships, since November 19, in what the group says is a protest against Israel’s military operations inGaza.

The Houthi military spokesman said on Friday that the naval forces carried out an operation targeting the "British oil tanker (Marilyn Luanda)" in the Gulf of Aden, causing a fire to break out on board.

The Houthi attacks caused severe disruptions to international shipping traffic, and prompted some companies to suspend their passage from the Red Sea and take the longer and more expensive journey around Africa.

American and British warplanes, ships, and submarines are launching dozens of raids on Houthi strongholds across Yemen.
