A global warning to iPhone owners: the first virus to successfully penetrate the phone

A cybersecurity company has warned of a dangerous virus targeting iPhone and iPad users to steal their bank accounts.

Apple usually boasts that its products are the safest from hacker attacks.

Group-IB said that the GoldPickaxe software was targeting the Android system before it successfully moved to attack users. iPhone and iPad, and described it as perhaps the first Trojan horse virus to hit Apple devices.

She explained that this software could be highly dangerous because it collects facial recognition data, identity documents, and SMS messages, which may make it capable of stealing bank accounts for users.

This is the most prominent thing that Apple will reveal at its conference in March.. The complete list

After seizing all the data, hackers use artificial intelligence tools to create fake images using deepfake software in order to gain access to the bank accounts of victims who do not find out until it is too late.

The “GoldPickaxe” software was initially spread through Apple’s TestFlight system in the App Store, which allows developers to launch trial versions of their applications without going through the review process in the store.

Apple removed the suspicious application, but the hackers came up with a more complex trick that relies on the Mobile Device Management (MDM) profile, which is mainly used to manage corporate devices. It allows companies to customize and control many aspects of the system according to what they need.

The hackers resorted to convincing users to install the malicious file in order to download an application from outside the App Store, which is not currently possible, but when the file is installed, the hackers are able to collect all the data they need.

The GoldPickaxe malware mainly targets users in Vietnam and Thailand but can also be used to attack users in other regions of the world.
