Biden attacks Trump: His statements about NATO are dangerous and amount to bowing to Putin.

US President Joe Biden attacked former President Donald Trump after the latter's statements that he would encourage Russia to invade countries that do not fulfill their NATO obligations.

Biden said in a speech about aid to Ukraine that these statements amount to bowing down to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden added that Trump's comments questioning the United States' commitment to defending its allies from any attack were "dangerous and un-American," referring to the comments of Trump, who is most likely to win the Republican nomination in the 2024 US presidential elections, which raised new concerns among the United States' partners about the possibility of its reliance on the United States.

According to CNN, Trump said on Saturday that he once warned that he would let Russia do whatever it wanted to NATO member states that were “delayed” in allocating 2% of their gross domestically produced income to defense. This was the latest case in which the former president appeared to side with a country at the expense of America's democratic allies.

Speaking, Biden said Trump's comments on the Joint Defense Treaty were "dangerous and shocking." He added, "When America gives its word, it means something," and he described Trump's comments as calling into question its "un-Americancommitments."

“He doesn’t understand that the sacred commitment we made also works for us,” Biden said of Trump. “Can you imagine a former president of the United States saying that? The whole world heard it, and what’s worse is that he means it.”

Article 5 of NATO's Mutual Defense Clause states that any armed attack against one or more of its members is considered an attack against all members, but Trump often portrays NATO allies as an "excess burden" in the US military and publicly questions the value of the military alliance that... He defined American foreign policy for more than 70 years.

Jason Miller, a senior Trump adviser, said in response to Biden's comments: “President Trump pushed our allies to increase their spending in NATO by asking them to pay, but Joe Biden is back to letting them take advantage of American taxpayers... When you don't pay for your defense expenses, "You can't be surprised to get more war."
