Biden: I ordered American forces to strike facilities in Syria and Iraq.

 


US President Joe Biden announced on Friday evening that he had ordered the US army to attack targets in Syria and Iraq in response to the killing of three American soldiers last Sunday at an American base in Jordan.

He said after participating in receiving the bodies of the soldiers at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware: “This evening, based on my directions, American forces carried out strikes on facilities in Iraq and Syria that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its allied factions use to attack American forces.”

He added, “Our response began today and will continue at the times and places we specify.” At the same time, he stressed that “America does not seek a conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world.”

Before that, the US military announced that it had carried out air strikes in Iraq and Syria targeting the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and armed groups allied with it. He explained that the strikes included more than 85 targets.

The US Central Command reported that long-range strategic bombers taking off from the United States participated in the bombing, in which 125 precision-guided missiles were fired. She added that the targets included command and control headquarters, intelligence centers, and stores of missiles, drones, ammunition, and logistical supplies belonging to the militias and the Revolutionary Guard, all of which “facilitated attacks on American forces and international coalition forces.”

The strikes in Syria and Iraq came in response to the killing of three American soldiers at an American base in Jordan. It was learned that centers of the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Iraqi city of Al-Qaim were bombed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that 13 militants from pro-Iranian factions were killed and others were injured in the air strikes.

He added that American forces at the Koniko field base in the Deir ez-Zor countryside were placed on alert and sirens were sounded.
