Stable Diffusion 3: A New AI Image Generator

Stable AI, the startup behind Stable Diffusion, a tool that uses generative AI to create images from text prompts, unveiled Stable Diffusion 3, a next-generation model, on Thursday.

Stability AI claimed that the new model, which is not yet widely available, improves image quality, works better with prompts that contain multiple subjects, and can get more accurate text as part of the generated image, something it has not previously seen. Previous stable diffusion models were great at.

The announcement comes days after Stability AI's biggest competitor, OpenAI, unveiled Sora, an entirely new AI model capable of creating near-realistic, high-definition videos with simple text prompts. The Sora app, which is not yet available to the general public, has raised concerns about its ability to create fake footage that looks realistic.

OpenAI said it is working with experts in the field of misinformation and hate content to test the tool before making it widely available. Stability AI said it does the same. “We have taken and will continue to take reasonable steps to prevent misuse of Stable Diffusion 3 by bad actors,” the company wrote in a blog post on its website.

“Through continued collaboration with researchers, experts, and our community, we expect to further innovate with integrity as we approach the public release of the model.”

It's not clear when Stable Diffusion 3 will be released to the public, but until then, anyone interested can join the waitlist.
